On April 24th, Draken Harald Hårfagre, the world’s largest Viking Ship in modern times, set sail from her homeport of Haugesund, Norway. It has commenced its challenge: crossing the North Atlantic Ocean as the original Vikings did 1,000 years ago around 750-1100 AD. Expedition America 2016 aims to explore the world and embrace the Viking spirit to look beyond the horizon and take on challenges, to inspire people to take on adventures. Draken Harald Hårfagre is crewed by 35 sailors, chosen from over 4,000 applicants, and coming from Norway, USA, Canada, Sweden, Estonia, Russia, France and Great Britain. After placement during the opening ceremony, the dragon’s head was mounted for departure, for longer journey to protect the ship and the crew from sea monsters, bad weather, evil creatures and unforeseen raids.
