The Capitol Hotel Tokyu, a luxury property near Tokyo, Japan’s Imperial Palace, recently announced collaboration with Aqura Home in the launch of the Wood Straw Project. They have produced drinking straws made from curling thinly sliced domestic timbers cut down in forest thinning operations.
Environmental journalist, Yuri Takeda, conceptualized this project during her reporting of floods and mudslides in southwestern Japan in July 2018. Capitol Hotel Tokyu established a partnership to raise awareness of sustainable foresting and forest conservation by means of wood straw production.
The Capitol Hotel Tokyu is one of the landmarks of Japans hotel industry. More information is here.
