Bowen’s Wharf in Newport, Rhode Island is seeking oyster lovers to help them beat a previous waste reduction goal. They are collaborating with the Nature Conservancy of Rhode Island and the Ocean State Aquaculture Association at the Annual Newport Oyster Festival.

Each year they collect between 1.5 and two tons of oyster shells. Volunteers hand-separate all shell from trash and recyclables. This year they want to collect more than three tons of oyster shells.

There will be food, music and volunteer opportunities at the Festival that will take place on May 17-19, 2019. More information is here.
