The Ivory Coast’s Floating Island is a green tourist destination. This mini resort floats on plastic bottles.
The inventor, Eric Becker, created the complex with 700,000 discarded bottles and other buoyant debris. The island comprises two thatched bungalows, a restaurant, two pools as well as trees and shrubs.
Pipes from the shore provide water and solar panels supply electricity at the resort. A day visit costs $25 and includes the ferry trip and a meal. The hotel accommodates about 100 tourists a week. Read more about this unique destination here.
