Connectedness to nature makes kids happier according to a research study led by Dr. Laura Berrera-Hernandez at the Sonora Institute of Technology in Mexico. The theory is happiness comes from performing sustainable and pro-ecological behaviors.
Dr. Hernandez describes oneness with nature as appreciating its beauty and being aware of the interrelation and dependence between humans and nature. She urges parents and teachers to provide opportunities for kids to have significant contact/exposure to the great outdoors.
Examples of nature activities are gardening, hiking, bird-watching and farming. Read more about the study here.
