The World’s first virtual Global Freedom Festival will take place on June 18, ahead of the Juneteenth celebrations. This online destination offers a platform for art, history, education, commerce, and a shared vision of making Juneteenth a national holiday.
Juneteenth is an established celebration of the end of slavery in the United States. It originated on June 19, 1865, shortly after the end of the Civil War when a Union general arrived in Galveston TX and informed the former slaves that they were free. The actual Emancipation Proclamation, freeing all slaves, was signed by President Abraham Lincoln Jan. 1, 1864.
There will be competitions including Global Buckdown Dance Comp, Virtual Barz Cypher and Virtual Comedy Club. More information about the festivities is here.
