The Junkanoo parade in Nassau, Bahamas is an annual cultural extravaganza. This event celebrates freedom and features costumes, dance, and music inspired by a different theme each year.
Junkanoo runs from December 26 through New Year’s Day. The large dance troupes flaunt colorful costumes as they perform, and musicians play goatskin drums, cowbells, whistles, and horns.
At the end of the procession, judges award cash prizes for the best music, best costume, and best group performance. To learn more about Junkanoo and plan a trip to the Bahamas visit here.
