A Denver Post reader told me she was “seething” when she read the column I wrote about Bora Bora being a good bet for families as well as honeymooners. “No it’s not! Isn’t there anywhere in the world anymore that’s sacred for adults only?” Dana Lynch wrote. “I went to Bora Bora on my honeymoon 10 years ago for the specific reason that it’s not a place filled with children.

“I certainly don’t hate children, but they don’t exactly make a place feel romantic! Children and romance do not go together!” she continued.

“And I also know that some people will take their children to the paradise, but deeming it a “great family destination” may over time change the whole feel of the islands.”

“…Shouldn’t there be one place children can look forward to visiting as adults only? As an adult, I love travel because it offers new experiences. If today’s kids go everywhere….chances are good they’ll have seen it and done it all by the time they’re 21.”

I wonder what you think?

I thought it was great that a destination like Bora Bora–especially in this economy when every tourist dollar counts–could do a good job accommodating families as well as honeymooners. But I also see Lynch’s point. There are plenty of places to go where you won’t find many kids–including many hotels in Tahiti. I highlighted those (see my column below!) that specifically are reaching out to the family market.

Do you think kids should be “banned” from certain locales?
