AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EXERCISE REVISED ACTIVITY GUIDELINES

The American Council on Exercise recently announced it supports the first-ever revision to the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services released a second edition of the guidelines on November 12, 2018.

This new edition recommends as before, daily physical activity to reduce the risk of many chronic diseases. They also state that any amount of daily activity- no matter how big or small- is beneficial to health.

In addition, the revised guidelines reflect the latest science from the past 10 years that exercise is associated with the following:

  • Warding off disease
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Boosting energy and alertness
