Native American Heritage Month in New Mexico

New Mexico is celebrating Native American Heritage Month all November long. Native Americans provide a unique set of traditions that are worth learning about, and New Mexico is the perfect place to celebrate with its 23 pueblos and 1,000+ years of history. To help you decide what to do, New Mexico Tourism Department has a list of 12 things you could do to celebrate. You could get a unique perspective of colonial New Mexico at Jemez Historic Site by going on a tour of the 14th century ruins. Attend the Crownpoint Navajo Rug Auctions and take home a unique piece of culture – an event that helps keep the Navajo rug weaving tradition passing from mother to daughter. Participate in an authentic Native American experience at The Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort, with views of the Sandia Mountains and cultural activities to resort guests like Pueblo bread baking, creating and painting a pottery piece and dance Traditional Native dances. Check out the list for more, and check out the official New Mexico Tourism Department website for information and events about New Mexico all year long.
