New Mexico Declares the “Summer of the Mother Road”

Since 1926, Route 66 revolutionized vehicular travel in the United States by inviting the country to travel west. On that drive, families can cruise to the landscapes, culture and cuisine that makes New Mexico special. To assist with travel ideas, The New Mexico Tourism Department declares this summer the “Summer of the Mother Road.” Visitors on NewMexico.org will find a short-length film, itineraries, and an interactive map about the about the 300-mile stretch of Route 66 between Glenrio, N.M. and Manuelito, N.M. Listen to enthusiasts and aficionados share their personal stories of attractions and appeal of Route 66, featuring the Classical Gas Museum in Embudo, Albuquerque’s KiMo Theater, Tucumcari’s Blue Swallow Motel, and more.
