Julie Mehretu, a MacArthur Foundation artist, has executed a huge new commission for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. She used a neo-Gothic nave in a Harlem church as her temporary studio for a year and her paintings were installed in the SFMMA’s atrium in August 2017. Her works will remain there for at least three years. Ms. Mehretu made her first marks on the canvases soon after the November 2017 presidential election. Her shock moved her to rapid action. She said that her works “are trying to make sense of where we are in our country right now”. For more information please visit: https://www.sfmoma.org/.
