View from St. Regis in Deer Valley Utah
I’m lying on a heated massage table in the spanking new spa at the St. Regis Deer Crest at Deer Valley. “We’ve been very busy,” the massage therapist tells me. (www.stregis.com/deercrest).
It is a great massage complete with paraffin treatment to soften and help the blood flow in my tired feet and a scalp treatment. Great steam room! Another massive luxury hotel property is on line to open next year. The people checking in to the St Regis don’t seem concerned about the price of the rooms.
Later in the day, we head over to the Canyons Resort, a few miles away, to check out two more new luxe resorts. There’s the Dakota Mountain Lodge and Golden Door Resort (www.dakotamountainlodge.com)—a Waldorf Astoria hotel is the group’s first ski resort and it does them proud with custom designed furniture, a fireplace in the great room that came from Italy and hand-made crystal chandeliers that come from the Czech Republic. Every room has a steam shower! The ski valet carries your skis to the Gondola that whisks you to the base. There are outdoor patios with fire pits, heated pools and whirlpools and there is a cute kids area where parents can get a break to enjoy dinner at Spruce or a massage. Maybe you are in the market for a six-bedroom suite complete with Viking appliances, granite countertops and more?
A short distance away in the resort’s village is Escala Lodge—also brand new, also upscale and booking gets you two free lift tickets a night… (www.thecanyons.com/escalahome).
We’re staying at Silver Star at Park City (www.resortswest.com) that was just finished last year with its own chairlift, full gourmet kitchens (Wolf and Subzero no less) our own hot tub and more. Pretty convenient too! –once we figure out our way out of our spacious unit and over to the ski lift.
Joanne Mulholland, a New Yorker, was thrilled with the ease of the place—that the resort even stocked their fridge. “My son was just so excited to wake up and see icicles on the roof,” she said.
Her three year old had just finished his first-ever ski lesson and the two were about to head out for a snowball fight. “There’s so much to do here and so much to do without it costing very much. Also on their agenda: building a big snowman and hot chocolate.
Sounds good to me.
